Happy on the job: JRMC named among best hospitals to work
A national ranking as a great workplace will help Jamestown Regional Medical Center continue to hire and retain the best people, said K.C. DeBoer, JRMC president and CEO.
Modern Healthcare, a national health industry publication, placed JRMC at No. 63 on a list of the 75 Best Places to Work award for health providers and insurers nationwide at its September conference in Las Vegas.
JRMC’s employee satisfaction scores are in the 88th percentile when compared with other hospitals, according to the award information. Turnover at JRMC in 2016-17 was 18 percent, below the industry average of 19 percent.
“JRMC’s vision is to ‘Be the best rural hospital in the country for patients to receive care, employees to work and for providers to practice,’” said Ricki Ramlo, vice president of JRMC operations. “This award is evidence that we are on the right track.”
JRMC currently employs around 330 people with an average length of service of 10 years, said Katie Ryan-Anderson, JRMC marketing manager. There are 28 employees who have been with JRMC for more than 20 years, another 13 employees for over 30 years and three for more than 40 years, she said.
Abby Morken, a human resources generalist with JRMC for five years, said she enjoys making a difference for each employee and new hire. As a JRMC patient, she said her experience was equally as good.
“It’s easy to come to work every day when you truly enjoy the people you work with and you know that your work makes a difference,” Morken said.
Rachel MacDonald, a registered nurse in the emergency department for five years, said JRMC is a place where co-workers genuinely care and help others to excel at their job. An accessible administration and management and co-workers make JRMC a great place to work, she said.
“The patients that walk through the door who need us make this a great place to work,” MacDonald said. “We are a team and we care about our patients and each other.”
Tracy Anderson, a physical therapist and rehab manager with JRMC for 20 years, started out with the former Jamestown Hospital location. As a manager, she said the support from administration and fellow managers along with the daily joy of working with patients and therapists keep her on the job.
“Our mission is to exceed expectations daily and I see that here for patients and coworkers,” Anderson said.
As a regional medical center, JRMC serves approximately 55,000 people in nine counties. JRMC was also placed on the list of “Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals” in March by iVantage Health Analytics and The Chartis Center for Rural Health.
