First Community Credit, Agassiz credit unions merge

First Community Credit Union and Agassiz Federal Credit Union have announced a merger effective April 1. This merger will result in a wider range of services and locations available to members of both institutions while preserving the friendly, quality service of a member-owned, strong and secure community credit union. The combined credit unions will be headquartered in Jamestown and operate under the First Community Credit Union name.

“First Community is committed to providing great service to our members and forming strong relationships within our communities,” said Steve Schmitz, president of FCCU. “This merger is a great opportunity that will benefit both credit unions.”

Agassiz board member Steve Krueger said, "This is an exciting opportunity for Agassiz Federal Credit Union.” He said the credit union will continue to provide the services it has previously and is looking forward to providing a range of products, locations and technology moving forward.

The credit unions will begin to work together to join the two institutions as seamlessly as possible. The legal merger effective date was April 1, and the operational merger effective date  will be several months after the legal date. This is when all of the processes will be brought together into one, instead of running separately on two different systems.
