Geinert takes first at state speech

Clare Geinert of Edgeley, N.D., came home from the state tournament a winner on April 24 after placing first in humorous interpretation with an excerpt from Shelley Berman's book, "A Hotel Is a Very Funny Place." She also placed third in dramatic interpretation with a monologue from the off- Broadway musical "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," by Joe DiPietro.

"It is incredibly hard to even get to finals at state because the competition is so intense. To place high in two events is a wonderful accomplishment," Coach Joanne Geinert said. "I cannot express how very proud I am of Clare."

Sixty-nine Class B schools from across the state competed in the meet. Geinert's awards placed Edgeley 14th. She also received an All-State award, commending her for having placed high throughout the season in multiple events.
