Twenty-eight members met in the Fellowship Hall at The Assembly of God Church for an herb dinner prepared by Gloria Michelson and her daughter, Angie Maetzold. The 12 items on the menu were sprigs of lemon balm, mint tea, fruit cup with Thai basil, pate’ with lovage, nasturtium egg salad, meat loaf with thyme and oregano, pickled beets with cinnamon basil, potato chunks with chives and parsley, apple and cabbage salad with tarragon, holy basil veggie bake, anise dream puffs with anise and coffee with honey and cream.

Michelson explained the benefits of each herb as the dishes were served. She grows more than 30 kinds of herbs, and many members were surprised that there are many kinds of basil. Nancy Lou Jenson spoke about her month with Carmen, the Jewel’s traveling doll. Carmen went motorcycling to church and Bible study and also to Fargo. She said she spent a considerable amount of time with Jensen in clinics with doctors and nurses.

This story will be added to a book about Carmen by Ellen Walz and Jackie Tarpinian. Carmen’s one year of travels will be complete after the club’s November meeting.
