AAUW will meet Thursday
The Jamestown Branch of American Association of University Women will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Buffalo Mall community room next to Riddle’s Jewelry.
The winners of the AAUW scholarship to attend the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders will be announced. The scholarship is given to students from the University of Jamestown. The program will spotlight the work of AAUW in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and is open to the public.
An AAUW research study will be presented on the eight key research findings on environmental and social barriers for women. Amanda Christianson, a design engineer, will give perspective and ideas for what women can do to open scientific and engineering fields to women. Women make up only 13 percent of engineering professionals in the U.S., according to the AAUW.
A discussion and planning session for a local STEM conference with hands-on activities will wrap up the program.
