Rotary hears from district governor

Carrie Orn opened the recent Rotary Club meeting and handed out a schedule for the District Rotary Convention in Fargo May 8-10.

She said members can register online for one day or all three days. Tom Eckstein gave the table blessing, Katie Andersen and Jackie Tewes led the group in singing, and Doug Frolich collected “Happy Dollars” for Rotary projects. Keith Brokke, a Rotarian from the Fargo FM-Club, was a guest.

Jamestown High School student guests for April are Tom Bruns and Devin Lynch, both seniors.

The district governor shared information about a Rotary exchange student from Japan coming to Jamestown for the 2014-2015 school year. Any Rotarian or other community family willing to house this student for three months is asked to contact Dave Smette or Orn for more details.

May 8 is open for delivery of Meals on Wheel at 11:30 a.m. The Brew Ha!Ha! is still in need of a few more silent auction items, Orn said.

Joan Morris talked about the Daily Bread - Jamestown program and the continuous need for food items. Ave Maria Village, University of Jamestown and Jamestown Regional Medical Cener have approved kitchens, and the leftover food is put in freezer packs for distribution. The Salvation Army, Community Action and Jamestown Head Start will distribute the food. Morris said only state-certified kitchens are eligible to use their leftover food in this program. She said there is a continuous need for more businesses to participate.

Curt Liechty has today’s program, Darrell Losing has the invocation, and Casey Stoudt is the sergeant-at-arms.
