Legion and Auxiliary state convention set
More than 400 members of the North Dakota American Legion, its Auxiliary and the Sons of The American Legion will gather in Minot for the 96th annual Department Convention beginning June 27 with activities taking place at the Grand Hotel.
The Legionnaires from the 215 American Legion Posts across the state will be on hand along with the Sons of The American Legion and Auxiliary members to conduct the official business of the state’s largest veterans’ organization. Convention registration will begin at noon June 26 at the Grand Hotel, which will serve as the convention headquarters hotel.
A joint opening session will begin at 7:30 p.m. June 27. Department Commander Eugene Kachena of Pisek, N.D., and Auxiliary President Marlys Aubol of New Town, N.D., will host a banquet Saturday evening with National Vice Commander Wayne Satrom as the banquet speaker. The banquet will be followed by a dance with music by the American Legion State Band musicians.
Sunday morning activities will begin with the Joint Memorial Service. Immediately following the service, the convention will honor several youth champions from the past year.
The business sessions will conclude Sunday with the election and installation of the new 2014-2015 officers for department commander and department commander-elect as the highlight. Don Weible of Wilton, N.D., is seeking the position of North Dakota department commander.
