Convention held for Legion and Auxiliary

The Department of North Dakota American Legion and Auxiliary convention was held in Minot from June 27-29. Representing Streeter Post and Unit were El Ray and DeLight Fercho, Mark Dockter, Kathy Dewald, Judith Williams and Harold and Elsie Goldsmith.

Presiding over the American Legion was Department Commander Eugene Kachena, Pisek.

Various committee meetings and general sessions were held. Joint meetings were held with the Auxiliary and memorial service on Sunday. Guest speaker at the Saturday night banquet was Wayne Satrom, Fargo, the 2013-2014 national vice commander.

Elections and installations were held on Sunday. Don Weible, Wilton, is the new department commander for 2014-2015. Harold Goldsmith is the new department commander-elect. Mark Dockter is the new District 4 vice commander. Fercho was elected to the Central Region DEC, to complete Goldsmith’s term. Fercho was also presented a plaque for the 2013 Distinguished Service Award for his devotion to the community and to the service of the American Legion. He was presented a new AL cap and will receive a monetary gift from the department.

Presiding over the American Legion Auxiliary was Department President Marlys Aubol, New Town. Meetings were held. Reports were given by department chairmen with a reminder to report. The ALA units do many activities for the community and veterans, and they aren’treported.

Elections and installations were held. The new department president for 2014-2015 is Arla Roth, Bentley. Elsie Goldsmith was installed for another two-year term as District 4 president. Judith Williams was installed as District 4 vice president/secretary. DeLight Fercho was page for District 4.

Membership was stressed at the AL and ALA meetings: Retain members, recruit new members, and revitalize posts and units. Membership is everyone’s responsibility, not just the responsibility of the membership chairman. Reach out to those possible members waiting to be asked to join.
