Ave Maria Village volunteers meet

Ave Maria Village’s volunteer meeting was called to order by Jan Barnes, volunteer director, on June 20.

The speaker was Jason Anderson, physical therapist at Ave Maria. Anderson said there are physical, occupational, speech and restorative therapies available. He introduced the rehab program that is offered at Ave Maria. It is for those who have had a recent surgery or illness, and they can come in for therapy for several weeks until they are ready to go home and be on their own. They often have therapy two or three times a day.

Lisa Wagner was introduced and welcomed as the newest volunteer member. She is from Florida and homeschools her children. Therefore, she is helping out during the summer months and said she is enjoying it. She has become a guardian angel to a resident, has been taking another resident out for walks and has been helping with filing, copying and anything that is asked of her.

Annie Strickland led the discussion about the pie social that will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. July 22 in the Barthel Room. Volunteer members are asked to bring two pies. They will sell a piece of pie, coffee/tea or water for $5 and have whole pies for sale for $10. Volunteers are to get what kind of pies they are making to Strickland as soon as possible. Also people are needed to work the day of the event. Volunteers should contact Strickland at 952-5677 to work and to give her the types of pies they will be making.

Volunteer needs were gone over as well as different experiences from various people on their volunteer work in the last month.

The next volunteer meeting will be held at 10 a.m. July 24 in the Barthel Room. If anyone is interested in beoming a volunteer, contact Barnes at 952-5677.
