First bison calf of season born
The first calf of the spring has been born to the herd at the National Buffalo Museum, according to Ilana Xinos, director of the museum.
The calf was born Saturday and appears to be a healthy addition to the herd. The calf was named RE/MAX by Rob and Beth Keller ,who purchased the naming rights to the first calf of the year during the National Buffalo Museum’s auction fundraiser last year.
Bison calves weigh between 40 pounds and 50 pounds at birth but mature to weights of up to 2,000 pounds.
