Legion elects officers, recognizes members

The American Legion Ernest D. Robertson Post 14 held its annual awards banquet/meeting at the All Vets Club on May 22. After the social hour and dinner, the meeting was called to order by Commander Glenn Johnson.

In memory of Legionnaire members, Johnson read the names of the Post Everlasting for 2017-2018: Gilbert Anderson, Dean Anderson, Virgil Boatright, Wallace Burkett, Richard Dauer, Chris Graff, Delores Graff, Hartley Hoyt, Virginia Kudrna, Charlie Kourajian, Reuben Obenhauer, Warren Sand, Kenneth Sevik and Wallace Wiest.

Johnson presented Legionnaire Andrew Kudrna with a 60-year Certificate of Continuous Membership along with a 60-year lapel pin, and to Legionnaire Paul M. Senne Jr. a 50-year Certificate of Continuous Membership and 50-year lapel pin. Those not in attendance having 50 years of continuous membership are Arlo Beggs, Clayton Bertsch, and James Pfarr.

New members to Post 14 in 2018 are: Jason Mckenney, John Lang, David Seher, Ana DaFonte, Duane Yetterboe, John Kartes, Jim Exner, John Beaudoin, Randall Rudolph, Zoda Morgan Sr. and Paul Monson. An initiation ceremony was conducted for the new members by Johnson.

New officers for 2019 are: Commander Thomas Thrift, 1st Vice Commander Delmer Davis, 2nd Vice Commander Glenn Johnson, Finance Officer Cliff Herrick and Sergeant at Arms Dennis Mansavage. They were sworn in by District 4 Commander Douglas Wittmier.

Commander Thrift reappointed George Barnes as adjutant and Gary Volrath as chaplain.

Post 14 conducted regular business, and Commander Glenn Johnson announced the 100th Annual American Legion Department Convention will be at the Fargo Holiday Inn on June 21-24. National Commander Denise Rohan will be the keynote speaker at the Centennial Department Convention Banquet on Friday, June 22. There will be a Centennial Kick-Off Celebration, free and open to the public, from 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Holiday Inn parking lot. Entertainment, food, games and music will be part of the activities. For more information, call 701-293-3120.

The next meeting of American Legion Post 14 will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the Calvary Room at the All Vets Club.
