Jewels to hear about Lincoln

The Jewels of The Prairie red hatters will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Dakota Hills Community Room at 1317 5th St. NE. (The AKHair Salon sign is also at that door). Parking also available at Garden Hills; enter Dakota Hills at the northeast door until 1:55 p.m.

Those attending are asked to call their reservation by Sunday to Lu Struble, 251-1307.

Ruth Brubakken will give her presentation on Abraham Lincoln which will include information about a president people think they are familiar with just as she did with her two first ladies program followed with stories about Theodore Roosevelt. The cost is $3 for lunch and gratuity.

Sixteen Jewels attended the United Methodist Church Salad Luncheon in October. They met in the sanctuary after the lunch for a brief program on “Mindfulness” led by Jackie Tarpinian. She reminded the group that their generation grew up multi-tasking but as they age, they need to concentrate on one thing at a time. They find themselves opening the wrong drawer or walking into a room and not being sure what they were going to do or get. It is then they need to realize they were thinking of other things rather than completing the task at hand. They need to teach themselves new patterns of living so they can live independently longer, Tarpinian said.

Birthdays were acknowledged and news of absent members was shared.
