Tamra Wiedenmeyer was inducted into the Jamestown Kiwanis Club at the Oct. 30 Kiwanis meeting. Wiedenmeyer works part time in the audiology department at Jamestown Regional Medical Center and also with her husband, and fellow Kiwanis member, Jeff, at First Assembly of God church. They moved to Jamestown six years ago and have three children. Wiedenmeyer’s Kiwanis sponsor is Joyce Bentz.
Katie Ryan-Anderson, former president, introduced the speaker, Sherri Schmidt. Schmidt is the principal at Lincoln Elementary School and is also in charge of the Master Readers program in Jamestown. This program began in Georgia and was brought to North Dakota many years ago. They recruit community members to read to around 45 grade school classrooms throughout Jamestown three to four times a year. The Jamestown Kiwanis Club participates in this program.
Ryan-Anderson led the meeting attended by 26 members and four guests Don Caine led group singing accompanied by Sharon Caine. Searle Swedlund collected “Happy Dollars” for Kids Against Hunger and was the member spotlight. Swedlund is executive director for Jamestown Tourism and treasurer for the Kiwanis Club. The next Kiwanis meeting will be held Nov. 13 at Quality Inn & Suites where Ryan-Anderson will introduce the speaker.
