Arthur G. Wieland
Arthur G. Wieland, 92, of Fargo, ND passed away peacefully on February 12, 2014 at Rosewood on Broadway.
Arthur was born on July 9, 1921 to Emil and Mathilda (Schlenker) Wieland in Streeter, ND. Later the family moved to Jamestown, ND where he attended school being active in sports such as hockey and football. He graduated in 1941 from Jamestown High School. Shortly after graduation he moved to Seattle, WA, where he was employed with Seattle/Tacoma Shipyards. In 1942 at the beginning of WWII he enlisted in the Army Signal Corp. with tours in China, Burma and India. He was honorable discharged in 1945, returning to Jamestown. He went on to attend Jamestown College and worked for JCPennys, and later fulltime for State Employment Agency. In 1950, he married Dorothy Bechtold in Jamestown where they continued to live. He was recalled to active duty in 1950 with the National Guard Battery C soon after the Korean Conflict started and was stationed at Camp Rucker, Alabama. After his discharge in 1953, he returned to Jamestown. He then worked for R.E.Meidinger-Buick. In 1954 he was hired by Depuy Sorkness Clinic., and retired in 1986 as Clinic Administrator at Jamestown Clinic, the position he held for 20 years. He and Dorothy moved to Fargo in 1996.
He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in West Fargo, Jamestown Elks Club, Jamestown Country Club, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and ND Medical Group Managers Ass. He also served on numerous Boards; Jamestown Public Schools, St. Johns Academy, Medical Group Managers Assn., and Jamestown Lions Club.
Art enjoyed all sports, golf, woodworking, writing, traveling, and spending time with his family.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the caregivers at Rosewood, and also Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Art is survived by his wife Dorothy; sons, Terrence (Sharon), Gregory (Carilyn), Jeffrey (Genella), and Douglas (Joyce); brother, Emil (Vye); sister-in-law, Joan Wieland; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lenard and Edwin, and sister, Ann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley and/or the Alzheimers Association.
