Athletes cited for weekly awards

Five Jamestown High School track and field athletes along with Amy Fearnside and Connor Doppler of the University of Jamestown have been named athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

Kylee Voight, Erin Hillerud, Madison Barnes and McKayla Orr teamed for a Jamestown High School indoor record and first-place finish time of 1:51.32 in the 800-meter relay at the state indoor meet Saturday in Fargo. The record had stood for 34 years.

Beach cleared 5-8 to tie for eighth in the high jump at the state indoor meet.

Fearnside, a sophomore from Morgan Hills, Calif., went 6-0 to place first at 116 pounds at the Asics Women’s University Nationals in Oklahoma City. She registered three pins and two technical falls and won the final 5-2.

Doppler, a sophomore from Anoka-Ramsey, Minn., qualified for nationals in the marathon, placing second at the Circular Logic Marathon in West Lafayette, Ind., in a time of 2:45.09. The national meet is Ma
