Blue Jays take down Grand Forks Central
Jamestown North Dakota 121 3rd St NW 58401

Offense hasn’t come easy for the Jamestown girls soccer team this season.

On Saturday, the Blue Jays made it look like old hat.

Alexa Kudrna scored a pair of goals, bookending a 3-1 win at Grand Forks Central in nonconference play. It’s the first win of the season for Jamestown.

“It was a tough game, but we played pretty well,” Jamestown coach Mike Schulz said. “Alexa had two goals and played really well. Emily Reiten did a great job in midfield. Haley (Hillstrom) had some key saves in net.”

Kudrna struck 8 minutes into the match to send the Blue Jays into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

Grand Forks Central got on the board just 5 minutes into the second half, when Haylee Novak found the back of the net.

Megan Gaffaney came back with a goal 5 minutes later, giving Jamestown all the insurance it needed.

Kudrna capped the scoring by converting with 5 minutes to go.

Central keeper Karleigh Gause had seven saves, while Hillstrom stopped five in net for the Blue Jays, who go to Mandan on Tuesday.

“It’s been a longtime coming,” Schulz said of the win. “We’ve had some unlucky bounces. We’ve hit the crossbar a couple of times this season. It’s nice to be able to put a few in and get their first win. It did a lot to boost their confidence.”
