Officials say the money includes about $5.2 million to enhance the region's emergency medical services and about $7 million for rural fire districts.

The grant money is going to communities that include Watford City, Beach, Dickinson, Williston, Wildrose, Tioga and Stanley.

Over the next two years, the Land Board is slated to award about $240 million in impact grants to counties experiencing rapid growth from the state's oil boom.

The Land Board is headed by Gov. Jack Dalrymple.
