Body found believed to be missing woman

DULUTH, Minn. — Duluth police said Wednesday that they believe a body found Tuesday in the city's Lincoln Park neighborhood is that of an elderly woman missing since last summer.

Police said preliminary evidence led them to believe the body is that of Dale Elizabeth Gerard, 74, who went missing July 20. However, they are awaiting final confirmation from the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office, which they expect to receive in two or three days.

Officers got a call around 2 p.m. Tuesday about a dead body. A witness saw a decomposing body 100 yards north of an intersection along a fence and brush line.

It could take several weeks for the medical examiner to determine the manner and cause of death.

This case remains under investigation.
