Carrington advances to championship
Carrington is locked into today’s championship game of the American Legion Class B Central Region baseball tournament in Carrington.
The host team rolled into the title tilt on Friday, toppling Hatton 10-0 in a five-inning semifinal. L. Clifton tossed a 2-hit shutout from the mound for Carrington, striking out a pair and recording just one walk.
Carrington received help offensively from Brady Bickett, who went 1-for-1 with three RBIs, and Pat Freeman. Freeman posted the walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth.
Hatton will face Nelson County this morning at 10 a.m. to decide who’ll meet up with Carrington in today’s championship at 12:30 p.m. If Carrington should lose, a second game will be played as the tournament is a double-elimination format.
It took nine innings to decide the first game of the day between the Mayville-Portland Legion Post 18 Patriots and Nelson County.
Nelson County’s Riley Nelson went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth to help Nelson County to victory 1-0. Nelson also got the job done on the mound, blanking the Patriots through nine innings and recording 12 strikeouts.
May-Port’s starting pitcher Jacob Klath was just as good, posting nine strikeouts through nine and not allowing an earned run. Dakota Hoyt went 1-for-4 for Nelson County and drove in Nelson in the ninth.
Errors sank Harwood against Gardner, as six of them piled up en route to Gardner moving on by the final of 9-6. Taylor Kyllo went 3-for-4 and belted a home run for the winners.
Daniel Benson went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish and scored a pair of runs for Harwood.
Nelson County and Gardner moved on to face each other in the final loser-out contest of the day, and Nelson County advanced with a 10-6 victory.
Jayden Grover (3-for-5), Ben Halverson (2-for-3) and Dakota Hoyt (3-for-5) led the way offensively during Nelson County’s 13-hit attack. Grover notched the win on the mound.

Southeast Region Tourney
No. 2-seeded LaMoure topped No. 1-seeded Enderlin 15-2 on Thursday to advance to face Oakes on Friday in the semifinals of the Southeast Region Tournament in Oakes.
Starting pitcher Brady Thielges posted a fine outing for Post 19 LaMoure. Thielges tossed 99 pitches through seven innings, allowing just two earned runs on four hits while striking out eight.
LaMoure got to Enderlin starter Spencer Gillund for five runs in the top of the second. Thielges helped out with the bat, going 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, three runs scored and three RBIs.
Roddy Gentzkow went 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBIs for LaMoure, as teammates Jared Meiklejohn (2-for-5), Anthony Olson (3-for-5), Quinn Alo (2-for-4), Benji Kietzman (2-for-3) and Brady Warcken (3-for-4) all posted a multi-hit game.
LaMoure (28-8) advanced to the state tournament in Langdon with the win. The Southeast Region championship is scheduled for today at 5 p.m.
