The host team rolled into the title tilt on Friday, toppling Hatton 10-0 in a five-inning semifinal. L. Clifton tossed a 2-hit shutout from the mound for Carrington, striking out a pair and recording just one walk.

Carrington received help offensively from Brady Bickett, who went 1-for-1 with three RBIs, and Pat Freeman. Freeman posted the walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth.

Loser-out play

It took nine innings to decide the first game of the day between the Mayville-Portland Legion Post 18 Patriots and Nelson County.

Nelson County’s Riley Nelson went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth to help Nelson County to victory 1-0. Nelson also got the job done on the mound, blanking the Patriots through nine innings and recording 12 strikeouts.

May-Port’s starting pitcher Jacob Klath was just as good, posting nine strikeouts through nine and not allowing an earned run. Dakota Hoyt went 1-for-4 for Nelson County and drove in Nelson in the ninth.

Errors sank Harwood against Gardner, as six of them piled up en route to Gardner moving on by the final of 9-6. Taylor Kyllo went 3-for-4 and belted a home run for the winners.

Daniel Benson went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish and scored a pair of runs for Harwood.

Nelson County and Gardner moved on to face each other in the final loser-out contest of the day, and Nelson County advanced with a 10-6 victory.

Jayden Grover (3-for-5), Ben Halverson (2-for-3) and Dakota Hoyt (3-for-5) led the way offensively during Nelson County’s 13-hit attack. Grover notched the win on the mound.
