Carrington girls edge Ellendale

Just four Carrington girls scored, but that was more than enough as the Cardinals powered past Ellendale 66-51 on the season-opening night of Class B girls basketball action.

Kayla Hochhalter came out of the blocks fast, pouring in 26 points for the Cardinals. Jacey Engelhorn was right behind with 22, while Madison Wendel had 11 and Brooke Rosenau 7.

Ellendale trailed just 28-27 at halftime, but was outscored 38-28 over the final 16 minutes. Shayna Mertz topped Ellendale with 18 points.

Lisbon outscored LaMoure 20-13 in the third quarter and pulled away for a season-opening win.

Saraya Diebert led all scorers in the game with 16 points for the Broncos.

It was tied 20-all at halftime, but the Loboes fell down in the third. They were led by Tasha Piehl’s 12 points.

Beach’s Bailey Waldal torched the twine with 3 3-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points, helping the Buccaneers get past Napoleon-G-S at the Linton-HMB Shootout.

Mariah Jangula helped the Imperials keep pace, hitting a trey and leading N-G-S with 19 points.

Antoine Motley and Cody Springer went head-to-head, but Northern Cass triumphed over Warwick despite Motley’s monster game.

Motley poured in 34 points for the Warriors, who rallied in the fourth quarter but fell short. Dustin Lovejoy added 10 for Warwick.

Springer carried the Jaguars with 31 points in the win. Hunter Ward pumped in 20.

Carrington received six forfeits, which helped them take down the Imperials in Carrington 49-21 in high school wrestling on Friday night.

The Cards did receive a pin at 285 from Bradee Schroeder, but the Imperials did win 5 of the 8 contested matches. Jonathan Grunefelder (138 pounds) and Nicholas Becker (195) picked up pins for the Imperials.
