Carrington sews up championship

A stellar defensive effort in the fourth quarter paved the way for Carrington in a 46-32 win over New Rockford-Sheyenne that gave the Cardinals the District 7 championship Monday at Fort Totten.

Jacey Engelhorn and Brooke Rosenau had 14 and 12 points, respectively, as the Cardinals held the Rockets to just four fourth-quarter points after leading 32-28 after three quarters.

Lacey Grann led the Rockets with 14 points.

Alecia Koropatnicki scored 18 points and the Hornets led after every break, as Harvey-Wells County punched its ticket to the Region 7 tournament with a 51-44 win over Four Winds-Minnewaukan.

Kara Fike and Kali Weinmann added 13 and 10, respectively.

Dawn Black paced the Indians with 16 in the loss.

Fallyn Freije dumped in 28 points as Lakota-Edmore breezed by Midkota-Kensal in the other qualifier.

Saddie Harding had 12 points in the loss.

The Region 7 tournament begins Monday in Devils Lake.

Kallie Scherbenske led three players in double figures as South Border rallied from a two-point halftime deficit for a 46-43 win and a District 6 championship in Napoleon.

Scherbenske had 15 points, one more than teammate Madison Schnabel. Courtney Jochim added 10.

Morgan Rohrich had 12 points for Kidder County.

Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter dealt Linton-HMB a 58-55 loss in the third-place game. Mariah Jangula finished with 23 points.

McKenna Flyberg had 20 for the Lions.
