Cause of death unknown in fatality
FARGO — Police have closed their investigation into the death of a former Fargo Force assistant hockey coach and University of North Dakota hockey player who was struck by a train in late November.
The toxicology report for Chad Johnson came back negative for drugs and alcohol, said Fargo police Sgt. Jason Nelson.
Johnson, 43, was struck and killed by a train near the intersection of Main Avenue and 42nd Street on Nov. 20. His car was found a short distance away.
“At this point, we don’t know if it was accidental or deliberate,” Nelson said.
Johnson’s cause of death is classified as undetermined.
Johnson resigned in September as coach of the Lincoln Stars of the U.S. Hockey League. Stars President Jim Pflug said in a news release at the time that Johnson decided to return to Fargo to be with family and address some health concerns.
