Chamber Music Festival Saturday

The Valley City State University Community School of the Arts will hold its 18th annual Chamber Music Festival at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Froemke Auditorium at the VCSU campus.

The Chamber Music Festival began in 1996 as a way to offer students of Valley City and the surrounding communities the opportunity to perform chamber works with high-quality musicians. Past chamber groups who have performed with the Community School of the Arts students include the Manhattan Piano Trio, the Chiara String Quartet and the Kennedy String Quartet.

This year’s group, the Stonata Quartet, is made up of students currently enrolled at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., including Hunter Towle, violin; Michael Miller, violin; Renee Tostengard, viola; and Samantha Hamilton, cello. The CSA students performing with this group study with James Adams, Sara Hagen and Geraldine Ong, all piano; Peggy Hammerling, flute, and Anthony Eddleston, violin.

Students playing in the recital include: pianists Mariah Schroeder, Sarah Paulson, Erik Johnson, Hannah Peterson, Kassidy Ronningen, Lydia Watkins and Caitlin Reiten; flutists Sarah Paulson and Mariah Westerhausen; and violinists Mikey Meester and Sarah Schauer.

After the students perform, the Stonata Quartet will give a performance of three movements of the String Quartet No. 2 in D Major by Alexander Borodin.

This project is supported in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the North Dakota Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The concert is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the concert, and all members of the community are invited to attend.
