Class B roundup: Carrington falls to West Fargo in Devils Lake

A battle between the state’s top-ranked Class A and Class B wrestling teams went the way of Class A during the Devils Lake Triangular in Devils Lake on Thursday.

West Fargo was able to keep Carrington at bay, defeating the Cardinals 39-24 behind five three-point decisions and four pins. Carrington was able to pick up three pins of its own, but was only able to win five of the 14 matches against Class A’s top team.

The matchup, however, was hotly contested, as three of West Fargo’s decisions were decided by two points or less. West Fargo’s Anjelo Shepherd defeated Billy Holtan 6-4 at 152 pounds, Kyle Kragnes took down Carrington’s Riley Lura 2-1 at 182, and West Fargo’s Reed Cronin topped Joe Bakke 6-5 at 126.

Carrington’s Walker Carr (145), Bradee Schroeder (285) and Patrick Freeman (138) all notched wins by fall for Class B’s top-ranked team. The Cardinals’ Bryce Carr (120) notched an 8-1 decision over West Fargo’s Jacob Franek.

Carrington went on to defeat the host Devils Lake 73-0.

Linton Quadrangular

Linton-HMB rang up seven pins, en route to defeating Harvey-Wells County 60-3 during the Linton Quadrangular.

Picking up pins for the Lions were Rylan Jacob (145), Jordan Gross (170), Garret Roemmich (182), Wyatt Nagel (113), Josh Schlosser (120), Chase Jacob (132) and Andrew Leier (138).

Harvey-Wells County went on to fall to Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm 54-10, behind five forfeits and four pins. Notching pins for E-E-K were Braeden Mathern (170), Dalton Schnabel (120), Tristan Dallman (132) and Clayton Grueneich (138).

The other matches that were sent to The Sun via fax were illegible.

The Lions escaped an upset in Napoleon on Thursday night.

The Imperials came back from a 44-32 third-period deficit, but the Lions were able to hold on by one. Napoleon-G-S hit nine 3-pointers in the game, led by five from Trent Fettig who ended the night with a game-high 21 points.

Linton-HMB (11-3) was led by Ryan Schneider’s 19-point effort.

The Mustangs’ Adam Jacobson tossed in 14 points, while Ross Knoll added 12, as South Border picked up a big District 6 victory in Strasburg.

Leading 34-33 after three periods, the Mustangs (11-4) went 8-for-13 at the free-throw line to help them outpace the Clippers 21-13 in the final quarter. Again playing without senior Nic Kramer, Strasburg-Zeeland (10-4) was led by 35 points from Brody Nieuwsma.
