The Linton-HMB boys basketball team kept on making early-season noise on Saturday during the Linton-HMB Shootout.

The No. 9-ranked Lions (3-0) cruised past No. 5-ranked Beulah 78-58. Linton-HMB topped No. 10-ranked LaMoure 61-58 back on Nov. 30.

Linton-HMB senior guard Andrew Small had a career day against the Miners on Saturday, draining 5 3-pointers and scoring a game-high 39 points. Small scored 14 points in the first period, helping the Lions stake a 20-14 lead, one which they’d never let go of.

Jett Hettich led the Miners (0-1), scoring 15 points.

Ramsey tourney

The North Star Bearcats made things interesting against No. 2-ranked Four Winds-Minnewaukan during the championship game of the Ramsey County Tournament in Devils Lake on Saturday.

The Bearcats built a 27-23 lead at the half, but the Indians outpaced the Bearcats 21-12 in the third to take control of the game. Four Winds-Minnewaukan took the title 64-56.

Trayvon McKay led the Indians with 25 points. He hit a pair of treys and scored 11 points in the crucial third period. Alex Weston drained 3 3-pointers and scored 22 to lead the Bearcats.

Rolette Wolford took down Benson County 72-69 in overtime for third place, while the Devils Lake JV team took fifth and Munich-Starkweather got past Lakota-Edmore 57-36 for seventh.

Wrestling Carrington wins 8 of 14 titles in Velva

The Carrington Cardinals flexed their muscles at the Velva Invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday.

Carrington won 8 of the 14 individual titles, while placing 16 wrestlers in the top five, en route to capturing the team title by 77 points over second-place Minot Bishop Ryan.

Zach Broadwell (106 pounds), Bryce Carr (126), Joe Bakke (132), Patrick Freeman (145), Walker Carr (152), Billy Holtan (160), Riley Lura (182) and Seth Zinkk (195) all brought home individual titles for the Cards.

Six champs lead SB at Napoleon tourney

South Border tallied six individual titles to lead all participants at the Napoleon Early Bird wrestling tournament on Saturday.

The Mustangs recorded titles at 113 pounds with Tyler Toepke winning, followed by Andy Nolz (132), Joel Weber (145), Nash Bettenhausen (152), Tucker Meidinger (195) and James Thielges (220).

The host team Napoleon captured three individual titles with Trenten Jangula (160), Alex Mann (170) and Matthew Gross (182), while Linton-HMB’s Brandon Oien and Josh Schlosser took top honors at 106 and 120 pounds.
