College football roundup: Mangino named Iowa State offensive coordinator

Former Kansas head coach Mark Mangino, who led the Jayhawks into the top 10 before leaving amid allegations of misconduct, was named offensive coordinator at Iowa State, the school announced Monday.

Mangino was the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator for Youngstown State last season.

However, he made his reputation at Kansas. Mangino was the head coach at Kansasfrom 2002 through 2009, leading Kansas to three bowl wins.

The Jayhawks went 12-1 in 2007, finishing the season ranked No. 7 after beatingVirginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

The Jayhawks went 8-5 and 5-7 the next two years, and Mangino left the program amid controversy that included allegations of misconduct and abuse directed at players. He negotiated a resignation from his job as head coach in December 2009.

---Charlie Strong was introduced as the new head coach of Texas in a press conference in AustinTexas. Strong left Louisville to replace Mack Brown, who retired after 16 seasons.

During the press conference, Strong repeatedly referred to the Texas tradition, saying he wants to add to the legacy left by former coaches Brown and Darrell Royal.

"The bricks are there," Strong said. "I just need to put another brick on top of it. ... It's time to put this program back on the national stage."
