Detroit Lakes Walmart evacuated for bomb threat
DETROT LAKES, Minn. -- The Walmart in Detroit Lakes was evacuated Friday afternoon because of a bomb threat.
Police received a call around 3:45 p.m. about a suspicious package in the store.
“There was a suspicious package found a couple hours ago,” Fire Chief Dave Baer said early Friday evening. “It was in the store but now it’s sitting by the entrance.”
He said the employees and customers were safe.
"We were able to evacuate everyone out of the store in a nice, organized manner," said Detroit Lakes police Officer Robert Strand.
Strand and Baer said the Crow Wing County Bomb Squad has been called in to investigate. Neither were at liberty to describe the package for safety reasons. In the meantime, the package has been relocated outside the store and the parking lot is blocked off.
