Dorgan calls for Amtrak, BNSF meeting
U.S. Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) is calling for a meeting between officials with Amtrak and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. At issue are plans for uninterrupted service of the Empire Builder across North Dakota.
"The Empire Builder is a critical part of North Dakota's transportation network," he said. "Amtrak officials have assured me they understand this, and I want to get all of these parties together in the same room so we can find a way to make sure there is no disruption in Empire Builder service."
Concerns have been raised about damage done by flooding to sections of the track near Churchs Ferry. That track is owned by the BNSF.
Dorgan is a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and the subcommittee that oversees appropriations to Amtrak.
