Dorothy J. Stampka, 77, of Sheridan, WY, passed away on March 31, 2009 in Sheridan Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Dorothy Jean Vondergeeste was born on September 16, 1931 at James-town, ND to Herbert and Grace (Keller) Vonder-geeste. She attended country schools, graduated from Jamestown ND High School, and Valley City ND State Teacher's College. Dorothy taught rural schools at Ashley, Clemensville and Rogers, ND.
In the 1950's she moved to Chicago, IL where she did substitute teaching, sang professionally in the Chicago area and worked for Kemper Insurance Co as a bookkeeper.
In 1975 Dorothy married Francis M. Stampka and began her career with the Veterans Administration working at V.A.'s in Fargo, ND, Fort Harrison (Helena) MT, and Sheridan, WY. She retired due to failing health in 1994.
Dorothy was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Francis M. Stampka, of Sheridan, WY; two daughters by a previous marriage, Eileen (Jack, Jr.) Sipe, of Sheridan, WY, and Kim Jace, of Edgewater, FL; five step-children, Marty (Chris) Stampka, of Sheridan, WY, James Stampka, of Sheridan, WY, Lori Stampka and Dennis Stampka, both of Great Falls, MT, and Debra (Don) Metcalf, of Great Falls, MT; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Helen (Richard) Schoeler, of Worland, WY; 1 niece; and 2 nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, James; and her sister-in-law, Marlene Vondergeeste, of Jamestown, ND.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Father Ron Stolcis officiating.
