Edgeley driver injured in crash

A driver was transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center after a crash three miles south of Edgeley, N.D., at 3:45 a.m. Saturday, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Shane Apple, 43, of Comanche, Okla., was driving a 2012 Kenworth T800, pulling a semi trailer, southbound at 65 miles per hour. Chelsey Bitz, 21, of Edgeley, was driving a 2003 Cadillac Escalade north. The swerving motion of Bitz's vehicle caused Apple to slow down and steer to the right of the southbound lane. The Escalade swerved into the southbound lane and crashed into the Kenworth, which stopped on the southbound shoulder of the road. The Escalade came to rest in the west ditch. Both vehicles received extensive damage.

Apple was wearing a seatbelt. Bitz was not.

Bitz was transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center by Edgeley Ambulance. Edgeley Fire and Rescue and the LaMoure County Sheriff's Office also assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
