Essay contest on grandparents begins
To celebrate the role grandparents play in the lives of grandchildren and their families, AARP North Dakota is once again sponsoring a “Why I Love My Grandparents” essay contest.
Last year more than 500 students entered the free contest open to any North Dakota student age 6-18 in public or private schools, elementary to high school.
The top entry in each of three age divisions will receive a $250 prize. Winners will be announced on or near Grandparents Day on Sept. 7.
Essays can be written about a grandparent or grandparents, living or deceased. Essays must be written in English and be typed or legibly handwritten. Essays should not exceed 300 words for elementary students (ages 6-10); 500 words for middle school students (ages 11-14); and 750 words for high school students (ages 15-18).
Essays will be judged primarily on content and creativity, but also on grammar, punctuation, spelling and penmanship.
This year’s entry deadline is July 11. Each entrant must include his or her name, date of birth, mail address, email address and phone number with the entry. Mail entries to AARP North Dakota, Attn: Grandparents Day Essay Contest, 107 W. Main Ave., Suite 125, Bismarck, ND 58501.
