“We knew it’d be pretty close,” said JHS coach Ben Smith. “Our goal was to go out and be competitive and win our first home dual. So, it was exciting to be able to do that.”

The Blue Jays won nine of the 12 events overall.

Rasmussen dominated the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle. His time of 2:13.49 was 14 seconds faster than anybody else and also beat the state-qualifying mark for the first time. Rasmussen also won the 100 free in a rout.

Love swept the 500 free and 100 breaststroke. He touched 23-plus seconds ahead of anybody else in the 500.

Rasmussen and Love were joined by Andy Oslund and Cayden Hare in winning the 200 medley and 200 free relay.

“(Colt and Braydon) did really well,” Smith said.

Oslund and Hare got into the solo-winning act, too.

Oslund comfortably touched first in the 200 free (1:55.91) and qualified for the first time in the process.

Hare outswam Ryan Hellen of Williston in a competitive butterfly contest, 1:02.87 to 1:04.53.

The divers delivered a typically strong performance. Riley Thom (229.45), Cody Lutman (208.30) and Rylee Woehl (116) gave the Blue Jays a sweep of the top three spots.

“Top to bottom the guys improved times and scored well, so overall it was a really good team effort,” Smith said.

James Gordon (50 free) and Hellen (100 backstroke) accounted for Williston’s two individual victories. The Coyotes also took the top two spots in the 200 free relay.

The dual kicked off a busy weekend. The Blue Jays host nearly a full house of teams in the state today. Fargo South is the only team that will not be here.

“It’s the second-biggest meet of our season,” Smith said. “It should be an exciting day.”
