FARGO — Walk into Golf Addiction, a new golf simulator business in south Fargo, and you might be taken aback by what you see.

If you were expecting an indoor golf simulation experience, you’ll find it in one of six simulator bays.

But it’s a big place, and much of it is taken up with tables and chairs as well as pool tables, dart boards and a bar.

So, is it a place to pursue one’s golf passion all year long, or a bar and restaurant?

The answer is yes, on both counts, said Mike Rufer, an owner of the business who was involved in setting up a Golf Addiction in Sioux Falls, S.D., about a year ago, where Rufer said the business model has proved popular.

The Fargo location opened Dec. 14 and, so far, things are looking good here, too, Rufer said.

Walk-ins are welcome, but Rufer said it’s best to call for reservations to ensure having a simulator available when they come in.

Golfers of all ages are welcome, he added.

Bays are rented by the hour, with rates starting at $35 and topping out at $50 for what Rufer called the “Sim Surround” room, a large space with a wrap-around screen that shows a panoramic view of whatever golf course is selected.

There also is a teaching room packed with cameras and other gear that captures information on many aspects of a golfer’s swing and provides an analysis on how to improve technique.

All of the simulation bays give golfers an opportunity for realistic play, said Chris Sayre, manager of the business.

“This is a way to stay sharp and to keep on your game,” he said.

Rufer said they will be starting golf leagues Jan. 20, and people can rent clubs if they don’t have their own, or don’t want to bother lugging them around.

If they choose, customers may use their own clubs and, for convenience, store them at Golf Addiction.

The fee for storing clubs is $35 a year, Rufer said.
