Guard band to perform in VC
The North Dakota National Guard's 188th Army Band will perform at 3 p.m. Saturday in Valley City, N.D. The musical tribute to the 164th Infantry Association and veterans will be on the Barnes County Courthouse lawn, 230 Fourth St. NW.
The concert, which is free to the public, will include the Dixieland ensemble, woodwind quintet, jazz combo, jazz band and concert band. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to Vangstad Auditorium at Valley City State University.
The 164th Infantry Association includes veterans and military families from the 164th Infantry Regiment, a North Dakota National Guard unit best known for its valiant service in World War II. The band had initially planned to perform for the association's 67th annual reunion, but the event needed to be canceled. Instead, the band will still play for the 164th and the public, with some association members taking part in a small luncheon in Bismarck the following day. The 68th annual reunion will return to its full size next year, Sept. 19-21, in Mandan.
