Valentine’s Day is the holiday set aside for lovers. It’s an excuse for chocolates, red roses, a candlelight dinner and a night out in town. Jamestown has all that coming up with “I Hear Music” on Feb. 14.

The event includes a warm and spacious atmosphere, an art exhibit, a gourmet dinner and an evening of romantic music. Tickets are still available if reserved soon.

Vocalists Anne Christopherson and Zach Redler will appear as event No. 3 opens the new year for the University of Jamestown’s 2013-14 Performing Arts Series.

“I Hear Music” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. in the Reiland Fine Arts Center’s DeNault Auditorium following a multi-course Valentine’s Day dinner at 6 p.m.

The two performers live and work in different parts of the country: North Dakota and New York.

Christopherson is an associate professor of voice at the University of North Dakota. The lyric coloratura soprano enjoys a varied and expansive career in the performing arts.

Redler is a composer, pianist, arranger, copyist, musicologist and musical arranger in New York City. He works as a vocal coach and accompanist for students at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education and Tisch School of the Arts. He is an adjunct faculty at NYU.

The two join together to bring Jamestown an array of selections that will explore how “we use music,” according to Christopherson, “to celebrate love, remember and embrace life.” How appropriate for lovers.

Jamestown is not a heavily populated city like New York or Los Angeles, where romantic evenings are reserved a year in advance. A reservation is available, and the evening will be memorable because of the vocalists and romantic dinner beforehand.

Tickets for the performance are $15 and may be reserved by contacting the university at www.uj.edu or by calling 252-3467, ext. 5435. Reservations for the dinner are required and cost $25 per person. A place at a table may be reserved by email, in person or phone.

The Valentine’s Day dinner is at 6 p.m. and separate from the performance. Patrons who attend the performance are not required to also attend the meal.
