In Illinois governor’s race, venture capitalist up for challenge

Email

CHICAGO — Wealthy venture capitalist Bruce Rauner has used $6 million of his own money to help catapult him past three other Republican candidates in Tuesday’s Illinois gubernatorial primary.

If Rauner wins, as expected, a far tougher fight looms: Unseating Gov. Pat Quinn, a Democrat who, while not popular, is expected to have heavy support from unions. Democrats have held the Governor’s mansion since 2003.
