Jamestown Kmart to close in May
Kmart will close its doors in Jamestown on May 19, according to Howard Riefs, director of corporate public relations for Sears Holdings, in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
Riefs said Kmart chose not to renew its lease with the Buffalo Mall due to "disappointing sales."
"The store closures are part of a series of actions we're taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model," Riefs wrote in an email.
He did not have any further information on what stores across the nation were closing. He said Jamestown was the only North Dakota location closing.
The Jamestown location will begin a liquidation sale on March 3, Riefs said.
He said the Jamestown location has 45 full- and part-time employees. He could not provide a breakdown.
All employees will be given the chance to apply for jobs at other Kmart or Sears locations.
The Sears store located in the Buffalo Mall is unaffected by this closing, Riefs said.
Joni Dalke, Jamestown Kmart store manager, referred all questions for this story to Sears Holdings.
