The Blue Jays participated in the Fargo North Duals Challenge, in which the finishes of each team's runners were pitted against each other.

Jamestown's boys finished 1-2, beating Fargo Davies 21-35, but falling to Fargo North (28-29) and Fargo Shanley (25-30).

Seb Startz of Shanley was the race winner with a time of 17 minutes, 3 seconds, but the Blue Jays also fared well.

Kyle Schumacher placed third overall with a time of 17:38, while senior Aaron Ford's 17:46 was good enough to take fifth. Colt Rasmussen was also in the top 10, taking seventh with a 17:57.

All three runners ran better times than a week ago.

"Our top two boys, Kyle Schumacher and Aaron Ford, each ran 32 seconds faster than the previous week," JHS coach Ken Gardner said. "Colt Rasmussen ran 51 seconds faster. And our No. 5, Luke Bowman, ran 24 seconds faster. A really good showing by the varsity boys."

Jamestown's girls fell in all three of their bouts. Fargo North won 15-49, South was victorious 18-40 and Shanley triumphed 25-30.

Fargo North's Jackie Harmon won the meet with a 15:49.

The Blue Jays were paced by Maya Moltzen, who finished 11th with a 16:51. Rachel Morin (17:03) was 14th and Teralyn Coombs (17:07) was 15th.

"The top four girls, all their times are pretty close," said Gardner, who wanted them to remain together for the first portion of the race. "They ran the first mile as a pack. Then that last mile and a half, you give it what you got. I think it helped them relax a little bit."

Jamestown will head to the Eagle Invite at Apple Valley, Minn., on Saturday.
