Ben Smith was relatively pleased with the performance of his Jamestown boys swimming and diving team on Tuesday night at the JHS pool.

0 Talk about it

Jamestown came away 1-1 at the double dual, beating Moorhead, Minn., 120-66 but falling to Fargo South 112-74 in the Blue Jays’ final home action of the season.

“We had time drops across the board,” Smith said. “It was a good, fun atmosphere with senior night. We had a big crowd.”

Jamestown won three events including the 400-yard relay, which saw Andy Oslund, Colt Rasmussen, Cayden Hare and Braydon Love finish in a time 1 minute, 11.17 seconds.

“On our relays, everybody’s kind of coming together,” Smith said. “They’re getting familiar with the people on their relays, and that familiarity benefits us. Swimming at home really helps out.”

Oslund won the 200 free with a 1:53.69, and the Jays went 1-2 on the diving board. Cody Lutman’s score of 230.70 won him the title over teammate Riley Thom, who ended with 212.50.

Oslund (50 free), Rasmussen (200 IM), Love (100 free), Tyler Bjorgaard (100 backstroke) and the 200 freestyle relay all came away with runner-up finishes.

Jamestown visits Mandan on Saturday for a meet, before taking a two-week break. The WDA meet is March 1 in Mandan.

“With the season winding down, we’re looking at who is gonna do what where,” Smith said. “We’re really focusing on figuring out our WDA lineup.”
