Jays take third straight
The Jamestown High School girls hockey team is determined to finish on a strong note.
“We’re playing pretty good hockey,” Jamestown coach Justin Connell said. “In the offensive zone, we did a lot of things right. We got a lot of pucks on the net.”
Elly Milender had a five-point outing, scoring a hat trick. She came up with the game’s first goal less than 2 minutes in, scoring two of the Blue Jays’ goals in the second period.
This after a solid start that saw Jamestown outscore the Firebirds 5-2 in the opening period. Brenna Pritchert, Chaya Joersz and Torri Kamlitz also scored, with the latter putting up two.
Jamestown goalie Nicole Mayland stopped 14 shots in the win.
Though the Blue Jays are eliminated from the state tournament, they’re hoping to finish the season strong. They play at Dickinson on Saturday in their season finale. Jamestown beat Dickinson 2-1 last week.
“It’s a great way to head out of this season and keep something fresh in their minds for next season,” Connell said. “We hope to finish this off with Dickinson on Saturday.”
