Jimmie men’s soccer signs two

Henrique Pires and Matthew Gutierrez have signed with the University of Jamestown men’s soccer team, announced Tuesday.

Pires, from Porto Alegre, Brazil, is a graduate of Colegio Santa Ines, where he played as a midfielder.

““Henri is a dynamic attacking player who will bring a flair and creativity to our attack,” Jamestown coach Tommy Nienhaus said in a press release. “His versatility allows him to play in any attacking position. Henri has good technique, and that, combined with his intelligent decision making, makes him a dangerous player.”

Gutierrez hails from Pasadena, Texas, and was team MVP at goalkeeper.

“Matthew is a solid goalkeeper who brings a level of athleticism to his position,” Nienhaus said. “He still has much to learn about his position, but such is the case with young goalkeepers. I know he works hard and has a great attitude to improve.”
