“It was a great win for us against a very good team,” coach Greg Ulland said. “The second half was some of the best basketball we’ve played this season and we needed to because they are a tough team. They’re going to do a lot of damage this season.”

St. Ambrose won the men’s game 73-63.

The Jimmies wrap up the Iowa trip today with a doubleheader against Ashford at 1 and 3 p.m.

A patented second-half run spurred another victory.

Down 52-49 with 13 minutes to play, the 10-1 Jimmies reeled off 13 straight points and lead the rest of the way.

Hannah Steele and Jessica Buck knocked down 3-pointers in the run.

Steele, Jordan Bridges and Buck combined for 51 points. The All-American Steele had another big game with 20 points and six assists. Bridges had 18 points and nine boards, while Buck added 13. Both Bridges and Buck fouled out..

“They hit some big shots and really came through when we needed them,” Ulland said.

Freshmen Alexis Watts and Kyra Dewald also earned praise from the coach.

“It was a really good team win,” Ulland said.

The Jimmies sank 20 of 22 free throw as they continued to build a strong résumé

“With the situation we’re in we need to keep doing that,” Ulland said. “It’s a byproduct of good practices, coming together and playing for each other.”

After trailing much of the game, the Jimmie men put a late run together to make the 22nd-ranked Bees sweat.

Down by 13 deep in the second half, the Jimmies scored eight straight points to climb within 63-58, capped by a 3-ball from Mark Hoge and a hoop from Matt Wingo.

The Jimmies had trailed 63-50 just three minutes prior.

But they could not sustain the rally as the Bees pulled away for their seventh win in nine games.

Mark Hoge filled up his line again with 20 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Brequan Tucker followed with 16 points and three assists, while Breshion Tucker had 13 points.

The Jimmies got little inside again and were dominated on the glass (45-28).

Tylon Deal flirted with a triple-double for the Bees with 16 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.
