Jimmies notch three firsts in Twin Cities

The University of Jamestown track and field teams combined for three winners at the St. Thomas Invite (Minn.) on Friday night.

Fridley, Minn., native Joe Ikier went 13 feet, 5.25 inches in the pole vault to capture top honors. He was joined in the winners circle by Kaleb Garcia, who sprinted the 60 meters in 8.64 seconds to come out on top. Trent Roemmich wasn’t far behind him, taking second with an 8.69.

Jamestown’s Matt Johnson was second in the triple jump with a 43-3.25, while Andrew Banken ran a 51.87 for fifth in the 400. Garrett Tenney (53-2.75) and Michael Brousseau (48-5.25) were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the weight throw. Jesse Hacker placed sixth in the shot put with a 44-8.75.

Sophomore Taylor Brown led the women, winning the high jump. The junior from Cavalier posted a mark of 5-4.25, which qualified her for nationals for the second straight year.

The Jimmies had a pair of runner-ups in Christa Lysne (2:25.09) in the 800 and Nikki Iverson (35-1.25) in the triple jump. Michelle Glass was third in the high jump with a 5-2.25.

A flurry of fourth-place finishes came from Erin Gorman (1:01.94) in the 400, Kayla Byle (1:47.03) in the 600, Samantha Goff (5:19.21) in the mile and Jennifer Brandt (34-5.75) in the shot put.

Tiffany Jackson finished fifth in the 800 (2:29.69), and Brooke Grooters (600), Aleona Reyes (1,600) and Meghan Kratofil (shot put) ended up with sixth place.
