It was a 2-2 road trip for the Jimmies.

After sweeping Concordia College Saturday in Moorhead, the University of Jamestown was beaten twice Sunday by Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. The weather won on Monday as the Jimmies’ doubleheader against Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D., was canceled.

The Jimmies (9-11) are scheduled to play Wednesday in Dickinson, weather and field-conditions permitting.

“We started off the weekend two below .500 and ended up right back where we were,” UJ coach Kevin Gall said. “Now we gotta try to figure out a plan to climb the ladder.”

UJ 9-14, CC 2-1

The Jimmies outscored the Cobbers 23-3 in a sweep Saturday.

The Jimmies banged out 22 hits on the day, while Emily Snow and Hanna Dunnigan surrendered just nine combined in back-to-back complete games.

“They’re dealing with some injuries to key players, so those games weren’t quite as competitive as we hoped they’d be, but we played pretty well,” Gall said. “Overall, it was a pretty decent day for us.”

In Game 1, leadoff hitter Courtney Van Den Bussche went 3-for-4, scored four runs, stole a base and had an RBI. Emily Newman and Sarah Money added two hits apiece, while Hattie Fullmer contributed a 2-run single.

Snow gave up just one run on four hits in six strong innings with nine strikeouts to earn her fourth win of the season in the circle.

Newman’s 3-for-4 game in the nightcap powered the Jimmies with a 14-2 win as they scored 10 runs in the top of the second inning to put it out of reach early.

Sydney Greenlund was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Dunnigan went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored at the plate. Pitching-wise she allowed five hits in five innings with four strikeouts. Van Den Bussche scored two more times and was on base three times.

Morningside 2-13, UJ 1-1

Morningside pitchers Jordan Johnson and Kayla Salonen handcuffed the Jimmies and the Mustangs clubbed three home runs to get the sweep Sunday 2-1 and 13-1.

Solo long balls by Johnson and Elin Landgren in the fourth and fifth innings were the difference in the opener.

Snow was solid on the circle again for the Jimmies, allowing only four hits with seven strikeouts.

“She threw the ball well both games,” Gall said of Snow. “She had them reaching and leaning.”

The Jimmies got an unearned run in the fifth. Van Den Bussche had two of Jamestown’s five hits.

The Mustangs (12-6) scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and rolled to a 13-1 win to finish the day.

Van Den Bussche (2-3, R) and McKeever (3-3 RBI) — the 1-2 hitters in the Jimmie lineup — combined for five of their six hits. Hattie Fullmer had the other.

“We had two or three opportunities that we wasted that could have made a difference,” Gall said. “We weren’t quite as sharp as you need to be against a team like Morningside.”
