Jimmies sweep Trojans
One day after splitting a pair with Dakota State, the University of Jamestown softball team turned up the heat against the Trojans in Madison, S.D. on Saturday.
The Jimmies swept the second of two doubleheaders in Madison, taking down Dakota State 3-1 and 5-0 to improve to 18-16 overall and 7-3 in the North Star Athletic Association. The Trojans dropped to 9-25 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
The Jimmies are back on the field today in Jamestown to face Minnesota State University-Moorhead in a pair of games beginning at 12 noon at McElroy Park. The Jimmies travel to face Mayville State on Tuesday.

The Jimmies’ table setter, senior leadoff hitter Courtney Van den Bussche, scored two of Jamestown’s three runs during its 2-run victory to start the day.
Jamestown struck first in the top of the first, as Emily Newman plated Van den Bussche with a triple to right field. Newman also crossed the plate on the play following a wild throw by the Trojans’ right fielder Lynnie Angle.
Van den Bussche led off the game with a bunt base hit, and she and the Jimmies teamed up to manufacture Jamestown’s only other run of the game in the top of the seventh. Van den Bussche led off being struck by a pitch. She then stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice and scored on a ground out by Hattie Fullmer.
Van den Bussche went 2-for-2 on the day, while Newman went 2-for-4 and Autumn Wang banged out a pair of hits. Hanna Dunnigan went 1-for-4 with a triple.
Jamestown junior pitcher Mandy Thiessen was solid in the circle all game. She shut down the Trojans until the seventh inning, where Dakota State picked up three of its five hits and scored its only run.
But Thiessen ended up going the distance to improve to 5-0 on the season. She struck out nine and walked none.

The Jimmie pitching tandem of freshman Hanna Dunnigan and senior Emily Snow teamed up to shut down the Trojan bats in Game 2.
Dunnigan started the game and pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits to the Trojans and striking out three. Snow came in to pitch the sixth and slammed the door shut over the final two innings, holding Dakota State hitless the rest of the way.
Jamestown scored a run in both the first and third innings. The scored twice more in the sixth behind an RBI double by Tylynn McKeever.
The Trojans committed three errors in the game, and only two of the Jimmies’ five runs were earned.
McKeever (2-for-3), Newman (2-for-4) and Brook Rheault each had a multi-hit game for the Jimmies. Both Dunnigan and Newman swiped a bag for the Jimmies.
