JRMC volunteers topic at Kiwanis

Email

Chuck Axtman introduced Nancy Jo Kropp, volunteer coordinator at Jamestown Regional Medical Center, at the recent Kiwanis Club meeting to speak on volunteer jobs that are available. Kropp handed out brochures with various opportunities. She described the Telecare Program where volunteers call people who live alone and need someone to check on them each day. She said there are seven volunteers doing that at this time.

Kropp said volunteers help out at the surgery center and come in at 6 a.m. They take the patients and family to the area and try to reduce their anxiety. Volunteers are the contact for families to ask questions, and they also help family members to their vehicles when they are finished, she said. JRMC has a gift shop, hospice volunteers, people who make baby caps and those who make pillows for surgical patients. JRMC has six volunteers who are more than 90 years old. There are 48 people in the auxiliary and 100 volunteer people altogether who volunteer. JRMC is always looking for more volunteers.

President Janna Bergstedt called the meeting to order with 28 members attending. Don Caine led the group singing and was accompanied by Sharon Caine. Joanne Anderson collected “Happy Dollars” for Camp Rokiwan.

Krysten Perkins will chair the program at the Kiwanis Club’s next meeting at noon Monday at the Legacy Center. Jamestown Kiwanis meets at noon each Monday and welcomes new members.
