Kifer, Nord have big days in Iowa

Dillon Kifer and Pat Nord led a big day for the Jimmie wrestling team in Sioux City, Iowa on Saturday.

Kifer and Nord combined to go a perfect 10-0 with individual titles, spearheading a second-place finish for the University of Jamestown at the Briar Cliff Open.

Kifer, a sophomore from Little Falls, Minn., capped a dominating run through the 149-pound weight division with a 46-second pin of Missouri Baptist’s Adam Woitalla in the championship match.

Kifer cruised to a 5-0 mark with four pins, three of them taking less than 60 seconds, improving his season record to 18-7.

Nord, a senior from Enderlin, upped his record to 23-5 with a 5-0 performance at 165. He registered two pins along the way. Nord finished it off with a 4-1 victory over Cameron Ream of Missouri Baptist in the  title match.

Tyler Schnaubert collected four wins at 157 and placed fourth. Half of his victories came by fall and the other was a major decision. He fell 21-13 in the third-place match.

Like Schnaubert, Jullian Gallegos went 4-2 on the day at 165, earning three straight pins at one point.

Jaykob Miller also posted a 4-2 mark, doing so at 174, with a pair of majors.

Dillon Beeler lost his first match at 149, but then reeled off three straight pins, closing at 3-2.

Heavyweight Antonio Lopez went 3-2 with a pin, while Zach Pickering also won three of his five matches at 157.

Eddy Wilson split his four matches at 141.

Andre Aguinaga (125), Jacob Paul (165), Demetreus Roby (197) and Matthew McCullough (285) each went 1-2. McCullough’s win came by fall.

The Jimmies’ 16 pins were second only to Grand View, Iowa, which had 18 in the 16-team field.

Up next for the Jimmies is the NAIA North Region Qualifier, Feb. 15 in Mitchell, S.D.
