Kulsruds named wish ambassadors
On Nov. 16, “World of Wishes” was held at Best Western Ramkota Hotel in Bismarck. At the event a silent auction, photo booth and dinner were held for the wish ambassadors.
This year’s wish ambassadors are three brothers, Lane, Tanner and Ty Kulsrud of Grace City, N.D., who all share the same life-threatening medical condition.
In December 2011 the Kulsruds learned that Lane, age 11, was diagnosed with PKAN, a neurological disorder that is characterized by an excess of iron build-up in the brain. Shortly after his diagnosis Tanner, 9, and Ty, 7, received the same diagnosis. While they may share the same condition, they each had different wishes. Ty has wanted to go back to Texas since he went with his dad to purchase a stock trailer years ago. For Ty, his wish come true was to go to Texas to hang out with real cowboys. Lane spends many hours in a therapy pool to fight for the muscle strength that is lost with PKAN and was ready to trade chlorine for salt water. His wish was to go to Hawaii.
JakeStar LLC, producer of the JakeStar Festival, is a nonprofit organization founded in 2012 after a tragic accident took the life of a young child. Out of tragedy came a desire to celebrate life with friends and families who have also been impacted by the loss of a child. After the first annual festival JakeStar was able to become an Adopt-A-Wish sponsor. It sponsored Ty’s wish and announced at the event that Tanner’s wish to go on a cruise was coming true, and JakeStar would be his wish sponsor.
JakeStar LLC Committee members met with the family to kick off their trip at Hector International Airport and watched the Bison football team win their third FCS National Championship.
On Aug. 15-16, JakeStar LLC will host the third annual JakeStar Festival. This event will be taking place at LaMoure County Memorial Park. There will be music concerts, a comedy night, motorcycle run, golf tournaments and activities for children of all ages.
