GRAND FORKS — Bob Klade sat poised in front of a large book, fingers on the page, reciting what sounded like a word game.

“B-E-A,” said Klade, of Thief River Falls, Minn. “I bet it’s going to be a ‘D.’ Bead. Let’s back up and see where I’m at.”
