Letter to the editor: Congratulations to Gussner for national achievement
By Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.
I would like to congratulate William S. Gussner Elementary School on being named a National Blue Ribbon School, which recognizes specific schools across the country where the students have done exceptionally well. This award is a testament to the hard work Peg Wagner, principal at Gussner Elementary, and the entire Gussner Elementary community have done to help students excel academically.
Children growing up in the U.S. are told they can be whatever they want to be. However, to help make this possible, a solid education at all levels is absolutely critical. I’m a strong supporter of rural education and I know the “one-size-fits-all” models of education do not work in our state. Schools like Gussner Elementary demonstrate how important it is for local educators to be empowered to find solutions that work for their schools and their communities.
I’m so proud of the work that the Gussner Elementary staff and community are doing to address the educational needs of North Dakota’s children.”
